Shapeshifters - Lola's Theme (Positiva)

Shapeshifters - Lola's Theme

Ladies and gentlemen, for your pleasure I present to thee this summer's official anthem. Whether you're dancing, drinking, getting pregnant, bottling someone or any combination of the above, the chances are that this will be your soundtrack. Do not attempt to avoid this tune, resistance is futile, for as long as the sun threatens to shine on this septic isle, Lola's Theme will be omnipresent and inescapable. Should at any point this year you find yourself red faced and sweaty in Ibiza, abandon all hope of it ever leaving your sun fried brain.

Following an almost identical trajectory to 2000's summer blockbuster Groovejet by Spiller, Lola's Theme first appeared around Christmas on a small unheard of house label. Its obscenely summery combination of uplifting brass, strings and family friendly four/four beat soon pricked the ears of those A&R types at Positiva, who with the same guile they showed with the aforementioned Groovejet, slapped an inoffensive vocal over the top and sat back to count the money.

I'd love to act all above this kind of thing, but I'm sorry - it may be total cheese, but if it is it's the finest matured fromage of its kind. As addictive as crack and with a buzz to match, this really is music to just throw your hands in the air and abandon yourself to the good times. Come the autumn we'll be sick to death of the bloody tune but till then there's no alternative but to give in to it's titanic charms.
