It's fair to say that Shed Seven belonged to the second division of Britpop, and their durability and continued chart successes were due to melodic rather than lyrical prowess. Why Can't I Be You? continues that tradition, flouncing along in a jaunty way reminiscent of old fave Disco Down.
You have to admire their persistence, and in the mid 90s this would have comfortably dented the singles charts, but I suspect this particular brand of tuneful pop/rock will be seven years too late.
Fans will be satisfied though, with the B-sides Hanging On The Outside and a live version of Magic Streets enough to keep them entertained.
