With a name like The Shining, you'd be forgiven for thinking this lot were Kubrick or King obsessives and that their new single, by extension, must be a tribute to Jack Nicholson.
Not a bit of it. What we have here is a workaday, Travis-like attempt at creating a tune that gets into everyone's heads despite being essentially one constantly repeated musical phrase. And opening with "It's not easy being real/What's in my head is how I feel" suggests pretenders to Travis's middle-of-the-road crowns rather than the princes themselves. When we discover that The Verve's former rhythm section is behind the project, we nod sagely.
It's not that it's bad - with geriatric producer Youth on side to help smooth creases in production, the result is slickly executed. It's just not very interesting. But you'll probably end up whistling it.
