Hot on the heels of a recently completed UK tour with Chicago's pop-punkers Fall Out Boy, LA based rockers Shiny Toy Guns release their latest single You Are The One.
As much as there is to enjoy about Shiny Toy Guns incessantly catchy brand of Duran Duran-esque synth-rock, something somewhere wants to smack you upside the head and tell you it?s nothing more than a cheap Killers imitation. Big searing choruses, catchier-than-thou melodies and naggingly intrusive harmonies; yep, all been done before. Yet still, maybe stupidly, You Are The One needs to be taken for what it is - a ridiculously catchy blend of disco beats and rock riffs. Highly pleasurable.
The vocal trade-off between Chad Petree and Carah Faye works perfectly, allowing Petree's near falsetto tone to intermingle with Faye's equally submissive lament, and with the addition of a drum machine driving the song forward from the off, it doesn't take too long to grasp just why Shiny Toy Guns grabbed a tour spot aside Pete Wentz and Co.
I'd be watching my back if I were you, Mr Flowers.
