The two-man band from New York City sound like no one else. Pete Cafarella, on faded vocals and squiggling synths, and Nate Smith on drums are a couple of versatile radicals who are riding the crest of the nu-rave wave.
The duo have put out two albums already - 2002's Please Consider Our Time and 2004's One With The Sun and this is from their third Noise Won't Stop and their sound has changed dramatically. They now sound akin to the Klaxons, CSS, or a punky MIA.
Drop The Phone is a re-release following the band's festival appearances in the UK and Europe, supporting Muse at Wembley Stadium and a prestigious appearance with Stella McCartney at the Swarovski Fashion Rocks show. It is a stop/go tidal attack of funky electro with an eighties twist. That twist is a frenzied saxophone solo which is more hair-raising than the meanest synthesizer on offer here.
"All the people in the same boat" need to have the energy to live up to the unity touted in the track. Indeed it has squealed its way around the club scene since the beginning of the year. The bass is heavy and infectious and the drops are superb, the key changes just right with a strangely non-irritating cowbell. One clap happy track to bound about to.
