Sigur Rós are probably the most difficult band in the world to review. You spend so much time trying to avoid cliches like 'ethereal', 'magical soundscapes', and 'sonic cathedrals' before you realise that they're probably exactly the right words to describe the Icelandic quartet's music.
Following their deserved success with the Planet Earth endorsed Hoppípolla, Sigur Rós are now an unlikely commercial success. This is taken from their upcoming film Heima - ostensibly a documentary about the band - and for all those who fell in love with Takk, this will seduce you further. Jonsi's voice sounds even more impossibly yearning than ever, there's a gentle guitar riff chugging through the start, before it all explodes in a glorious crescendo that makes you want to run up the nearest hill and look down at the countryside.
It's music to sink into and wallow, other-wordly yet accessible, and almost resembling - yes, ok, I give up - some kind of ethereal, magical, sonic cathedral. They may be tough to review, but they're wonderfully rewarding to listen to.
