Mancunian synth band Simian have been threatening to break big for some time now, and Never Be Alone may be the song that does it for them.
Although the rather tinny Casio-like keyboard sounds a bit dated, there's no denying that this is a classy piece of pop with a nicely menacing edge to it. A step on from the Beach Boys influences of their first album, this single has a contagious, nervous energy to it.
Despite the fact that the song's chorus "we are your friends...you'll never be alone again" sounds more like a threat than a promise, this is an impressive single from a band who could yet be set for great things.
