Since Simon Webbe has taken flight as a solo artist it seems to have given him an inner assurance. Often on TV appearances with his ex-band mates Blue he would come across as rather arrogant, a side to the singer that made him unappealing and difficult to take seriously.
Now he's a fully fledged vocalist in his own right, and My Soul Pleads For You is the latest in an increasingly long line of quality single releases. This one brings a new emotional twist and more than a hint of vulnerability in its needy lyrics, not written by Webbe but sung from the heart to a guitar line brushed with Mediterranean flavour.
As the second album After All This Time continues to do well this will spark more interest in those who haven't yet investigated. At the very least it's confirmation that he's now one of Britain's finest male vocalists - soulful and assured.
