It seems particularly cruel timing for Siobhan Donaghy that on the eve of her second big solo push, all the talk seems to be of another that fled the Sugababes nest, Mutya Buena.
Which is a shame, as Donaghy's first solo album had much of promise, and that promise is carried forward onto this single. Co-written and produced by James Sanger, it relies on a big chorus that comes out all guns blazing, slowing down and hefting up the beat.
It’s a memorable twist, quite sultry on the ear - which comes as a surprise given Donaghy's previously soft-toned efforts - and the ghost of Kate Bush lurks in the background, though here is used to good effect. An interesting return, and definitely one who's album will be worth seeking out. She deserves a stint alongside Buena, rather than in her shadow.
