Those clever wags at Ninja have come up with the sonic opposite of everyone's favourite talent contest - Pol Ipod. Genius, in the sense that Skalpel use old Polish jazz samples, and parts were offered for budding remixers to send in their interpretations of the band.
The 12" contains five mixes, one by the band themselves. Four were chosen from the competition, with apparently no-one having to "mix for survival". Backini's expansive version has paranoid undertones, a real clash of styles, but Dr Rubberfunk goes the other way in his upbeat, wide-eyed interpretation. Meanwhile, J takes a relatively conventional but solid hip hop approach, and Paradowski gets edgy, as if running late.
Just for good measure, the Amalgamation Of Soundz mix of Low is added. Not for Michelle McManus fans, this release - more DJ Shadow, I would suspect.
