As if to prove that you really can't please all of the people all of the time, Ninja finally get round to releasing something that flirts with mediocrity. New Polish signings Skalpel may be brilliant DJs but on this evidence their own music leaves a little to be desired. A speedy funk drum break and some jazzy keys may have turned heads 10 years ago but barely manage to register these days.
Compounding the error we have a brace of remixes to dampen the fire in any soul. Quantic give things a push in a more four/four direction, but forget to add anything as interesting as a tune. Skalpel themselves offer up a drum 'n' double bass take that while not without its merits, still feels distinctly lacking, as well as a little dated.
An extended version of the original just ends up prolonging the apathy and it is left to the bonus track Low, a dark down-tempo ghostly affair, to inject some atmosphere and interest into the proceedings. A rare off day for the Ninja Tune boys, but when you've set the standard so many times in the past, just average really isn't enough.
