In the last few months, Leeds trio Sky Larkin have been clogging up the literary flow of music blogs and magazines with those in the know clamouring to be the first to tell you that they're a band you should be listening to. And with an underground following already in their armoury, a name that rings a bell with any self-respecting indie fan, not to mention a deal with the ever-brilliant Wichita, Sky Larkin's debut single promises much.
And indeed it delivers. Fossil, I is a hugely likeable, original, throbbing piece of music, Sky Larkin's muscle sounding like it's coming from something larger a three-piece, their attention to songcraft belying a limited discography. The vocals of Katie Harkin are powerful yet refined, and her disjointed, tantrum-throwing melodies infectious.
Skilfully managing to make a sound that you feel you've been acquainted with through many good times, Sky Larkin remain incomparable. Musically articulate, brutish, and quintessentially British indie power-pop. Let me be the first to tell you, this is a band you should be listening to.
