Slipknot are musical Marmite - you either love 'em or loathe 'em but they're still gonna sell.

Having emerged intact from the nu-metal typhoon that sucked many of their peers into oblivion, the band's third album has been touted as having redefined metal. It most certainly does NOT, but as previous single Duality proved, it definitely has its moments.

Latest release Vermilion will come as a shock to some - pushing well past the five minute mark, it's nothing short of an epic. Unfortunately, the relentless beat gets monotonous far too quickly, as does Corey's whiny chorus. However, on the plus side there's an ingenious time-lapse video and the material is almost intelligent compared to previous efforts (and yes that means songs like People = S**t).
