Have you ever heard of Smother? No, neither have I, but if the powers that be are to be believed (and by "powers that be" I mean the awesome pairing of Zane Lowe and Steve Lamacq) all that will be changing in 2005.

Use is very much of reminiscent of Nu-Clear sounds Ash (that is to say the Ash that nobody liked) - crashing through the speakers with overdriven gusto, complete with sing-along chorus and top-of-the-lungs harmonies. Unmistakably kinetic and attention-grabbing.

That said, however, the song lacks the immediacy of a Wheeler-penned ditty, the sheer filth of a Queens Of The Stone Age or the sonic orgasm of up-and-comers Fleeingnewyork. But what the hell - when the radio alternative is Good Charlotte, I'd take Smother any day of the week.
