Snoop Dogg feat Pharrell - Let's Get Blown (Mercury)
UK release date: 21 February 2005
Forget what you've read - Snoop Dogg has not softened up. Okay, so he may be waxing lyrical about cosy home life and coaching his children's sports team in his spare time, but the Dogg is as potent as ever - particularly in this second offering from his dream team partnership with Pharrell.
As we have come to expect, Snoop makes rap look like childsplay with a smooth flow in his signature drawl. He even finds time to sing a couple of lines, just for the hell of it. Similarly, Pharrell meets the bar he constantly raises for himself with a funky stop/start groove and a bass lick to die for (so good that you'll soon forget the apparent omission of any kind of intro).
Drop It Like It's Hot may have come and gone (either a work of genius or a piece of trash, depending on who you listen to), but Let's Get Blown packs more than enough punch to carry its summery vibe throughout the end of winter and far beyond.
