Soho Dolls have made a name for themselves around the London area, drawing critical acclaim for their fiery live shows (the singer likes taking her clothes off, apparently), one supporter being Alan McGee (surely the kiss of death for any band). Undeterred by this daunting news, the Dolls release the glammy stomper Stripper as an effective statement of intent.

The guitars are rooted in glam rock, evoking memories of Bowie, T-Rex and The Sweet but has an electro-pop touch that places them in the same category as the likes of Ladytron and Goldfrapp. Stripper is catchy enough, but seems far too clever-clever for its own good, with an impossibly posh accent stating absurdist things like "you know that you're whetting my appetite", "I like your underwear" and "I've come to stare". The cute-aggressive guitars bland in well with the touches of electronica bubbling under the surface, and if it wasn't for the extremely pretentious vocal on the verse this could be something special indeed.

Remove the surely-put-on accent on the vocal, which carries with it all sorts of pretences to intellectualism, and you have a decent, catchy pop song with a belter of a chorus, but ultimately one that, despite its pretentions, is not too dissimilar to something we could come to expect from Rachel Stevens (which, in this writer's opinion, is not necessarily a bad thing).
