Scruffy scouse four-piece The Stands were treated indifferently by many
after the release of their debut album All Years Leaving. With their second
album Horse Fabulous The Stands are trying to win over that indifference
and prove themselves as not just another scouse rock outfit.
Having said that, the stench of Liverpool The Stands discharge is an
almost overwhelming sensation, though definitely not an unpleasant one.
Comparisons to The Beatles and The Coral should be
forthcoming and it comes as no surprise to hear that The Stands have
already been acknowledged by The Coral, and also the likes of The
Zutons and Noel Gallagher.
When The Night Falls In is fundamentally no strings attached, easy going
summer pop, with a bit of brass thrown in for good measure. Bolstered by the
lovable voice of Howie Payne - a dead ringer for John Power of Cast fame -
who has the cheeky scouse thing down to a tee. The Stands are definitely
ones to keep an eye on.
