The jangly opening and the carefree Byrds-esque backing might suggest The Coral, but when it comes to vocals Noel Gallagher's favourite new band are sorted - Howie Payne's voice has a distinctive, low range nasal quality that stands out from the crowd. Not necessarily the strongest, mind, but easily recognisable.

Outside Your Door is tuneful and deeply felt, its country edges adding some sweet melancholia in just the right dose. Some intricate guitar work ensures repeated listens are not unrewarded.

The B-side is less effective, with a harmonica solo that outstays its welcome, but we won't hold that against them - Payne's arrangements and vocal tone secure The Stands an individual identity, meaning they're some way towards a lasting career.
