Second single from this arty, new wave NYC four piece, whose debut EP Somewhere Across Forever was enthusiastically received earlier this year. And before you ask, they sound nothing like The Strokes.
On listening to this follow-up single, it's easy to see why they're doing well over here. Imagine if you can, Kevin Rowland, Dexys Midnight Runners-era, doing an impression of Jarvis Cocker to a backing track not unlike The Pixies (partly due to Kim Deal-style backing vocals and half of the chord progression of Where Is My Mind). It's a rum brew, mixing a very English vocal with a US new wave backbeat, but serves as further evidence that the '80s and early '90s are officially the cool era to be referencing these days.
If, like me, you're an old fart who was there at the time, it's somewhat gratifying that the music you were into when you were a kid serves a greater purpose than to fuel drunken nostalgia at School Disco.
