Few artists have the ability to write good songs at such a whimsy as Stephen Malkmus. He possesses a unique talent shared with his other '90s contemporaries Evan Dando and J Mascis. Dark Wave is the accompanying single/EP to the recently released Pig Lib, with the aptly suited Jicks.

The single itself is well-produced piece of sinister dark-pop. While Dynamic Calories is a heartening nostalgic trip down Pavement lane. Dark Wave features several tracks which didn't quite make Pig Lib, aswell as a couple of live sweeties, which are a treat for collecting Malkmus fans.

Fractions and Feelings is yet another warm alt-folk reminder of the Malkmus music machine. Old Jerry drops a notch with a deep Malkmus voiceover/sing along to a fantastic jazz-Americana 'out-take'. He can do no wrong at the moment. "We want more!" will be the cry from Malkmus adorers, which looks like the plan for now.
