With their last single sounding like a cover of the theme tune to the '80s TV show, The Littlest Hobo, perhaps it's time for the Stereophonics to give us listeners a long overdue rock song. A song that lives up to the promise that there certainly was in their earlier work.
What we get is another acoustic drone-athon, with Kelly Jones' voice at an all-time gruff low. It seems that, at the moment, Stereophonics are enjoying the fruits of their labour, and so not concentrating on writing the good songs which we know they are capable of.
The B-sides show the continued identity crisis this band are going through with what appear to be attempts at some kind of neo-country. The likes of Wilco and Ryan Adams would leave these on the studio floor, labelled "out-takes".
