Of all the hundreds of bands to have been touted as "the new Coldplay", few can have less fitted the description than Nottingham four-piece Story One. A half-French combo with a violin prominent in their sound, the band could be more accurately compared to a more beefed up version of singer/songwriter Tom Baxter.
Surprisingly, despite being around for five years, this is their debut release and it is an impressive one. Singer Tom Evans, the man who also busies himself with the fiddle work, has a gravely voice akin to Kelly Jones that captures your interest on the striped down acoustic title track of this three-song EP.
The band prove there are more strings to their bow with the harder edged Coming Up and Delhi Funeral, the latter of which was apparently inspired by the sight of bodies being cremated on the Ganges. It is doubtful that Story One will be dying a death themselves, however, after already gaining a number of followers with a successful set at this year's Wireless festival in Hyde Park.
