Ah, Myspace. That old chestnut. Since some other similarly monikered young tykes caused a stir on there last year, everyone now fancies their chances of hitting the big time. These lads are no different, managing to attract 15,000 visitors to their page after releasing their debut single. On the evidence of this follow-up, they're better equipped to go the distance than most.

Though the press release seems happy to invoke Arctic’s comparisons, the similarity ends with the name. Sugarmonkey deal in American-sounding anthems with an FM rock sheen full of suitably big choruses - a refreshing antidote to the new wave riffs clogging up the airwaves at the moment.

Less zany than Fall Out Boy, with added elements of Bends-era Radiohead and Placebo, Welcome To My Life has enough power and vigour to avoid sounding like a simple rehash. B-Side Lucky Me Unlucky You is an unashamed stab at a stadium-sized sing-along that they pull off with aplomb. Both display an ambition that should see them fill reasonably large venues soon.
