Wales' finest SFA are still knocking around after all this time, back with their eighth studio record Hey Venus!, with fans hoping for a return to form following two disappointing past efforts.

This, the first single from the LP, sadly shows signs of treading over familiar territory. The Beach Boys' style harmonies and Gruff Rhys' ever endearing vocal performance shows no sign of letting up but there's just not enough to keep anyone other than hardcore fans interested here. Catchy? Sure. Summery? Absolutely. But is it likely to be in your head a few minutes after hearing it? Not a chance. This, added to an irritatingly repetitive chorus, underlines the possibility that the Furries may have had their day.

Not a horrifying track by any means, and as a live bad they are still a stunning spectacle, but this is light years away from their Ice Hockey Hair best. Let's hope the album contains more in the way of gems than this effort.
