Three singles into their album Road To Rouen and it's still a little
difficult to get used to the idea of Supergrass on the quiet. But if you've
not yet been persuaded to investigate that record, this ought to send you
off for a copy post haste.
Fin is almost the complete antithesis of their early style - soft,
electro-lite beats, oddly lilting guitars and an almost complete lack of
bass enabling the music to float above the clouds. It's also extremely
moving, with lyrics that tell of; "love and loss so dear, you know it's a
long way home". Not the most uplifting you might think, but you'd be wrong
- resigned yet strangely optimistic might be the sound bite here.
"Lord knows I can feel her, see her, in my mind," is Gaz's observation in
the first verse. A few listens to this song and the same thing will happen
to you.
