Sway is a North London rapper who recently beat 50 Cent, Roots Manuva and The Game to win the title of Best Hip-Hop Artist at this year's MOBOs, despite the fact that he was unsigned at the time. Download is his first single since that triumph and so is bound to garner him a whole load of attention.
You've got to give Sway credit for unfashionable subject matter - while other rappers may make a stand against the growth of UK culture, he's more concerned with people illegally downloading his material. His rapping is as good as the hype suggests, being rapid fire and fluent, while the lyrics are in the very English tradition of The Streets or The Mitchell Brothers - "The quality’s rubbish and there aint no sleeves",
He's not afraid to take the mickey out of himself either - as the verse where he mixes up Kazaa with a real person demonstrates - and the whole thing is a lot more fun than one of 50 Cent's tiresomely macho efforts. Don't look for it in any record shops though: it's only available on, erm, download. Oh the irony...
