It's refreshing to see certain bands who've been kicking around the independent circuit for years finally making commercial breakthroughs. In Switchfoot's case, it's been fourth time lucky, with their latest album The Beautiful Letdown going platinum in the US and still selling strongly.

Meant To Live, taken from the soundtrack to Spider-Man 2, shows exactly why the public has started to take them to their collective bosom. There's a muscular but not unfriendly heavy guitar riff, an absolute belter of a chorus and some genuinely inspired lyrics ("We want more than this world's got to offer / We want more than the wars of our fathers / We were meant to live for so much more / Have we lost ourselves?").

One can only hope that The Beautiful Letdown gets a UK release soon. In the meantime this will do more than nicely - a screaming buy.
