The Talks have spent nearly two years touring before releasing any recordings. But the wait was worth it.
Picture This, the band's debut single, is a breezy pop-rock song that floats by without a care in the world. The Talks make recording sound easy with a dreamy blend of rhythm and lead guitars, shared lead vocals, and bouncy rhythm section. Glimmering lead guitar lines sport catchy riffs in between Pat Pretorius' and Jody Moore's well-placed vocals.
The single almost draws suspicion - surely a song as deceptively simple as this couldn't be worth enjoying. But instead of sounding played out, Picture This sounds simply elegant. Even the song's fairly straightforward lyrics avoid mediocrity, pulling at the heartstrings with the repeated phrase "Just say the word and you'll never see me again."
It's clear, catchy pop with any of the annoying elements like forced emotions or lifeless playing that you find in other pop tunes. Picture that.
