She was the success story behind Sleeping Satellite, and a whopping ten years since the release of Bloom, Tasmin Archer is turning things back on. Or not, as the case may be.
Admittedly, Archer’s transcendence between airy and raspy vocals is a skill many vocalists struggle to achieve with such fluidity. This adds mild seasoning to what is ultimately a repetitive track.
Inspired by personal encounter, there is an air of (negative) social commentary, apt for pop consumption but too mild-mannered to leave a lasting impression.
With its sultry guitars and gentle melodies, Archer’s comeback is quirky but sits somewhat awkwardly between jovial pop and easy listening. Unfortunately this just winds up as one of those songs where an annoyingly voiceless chorus sticks in your head.
