It makes a change to hear a woman defending her man on record rather than taking him to the cleaners. Terri Walker even spends most of this song shielding him from criticism, and she's happy with how he is, warts and all. Even singing about such thorny issues as whether the toilet seat is up or down doesn't seem to bother her, as the lucky guy in question is obviously keeping her happy elsewhere. Not only that, but she sings "I know sometimes he's a nerd, but I don't give a damn".
It all helps that these choice lyrics are delivered with one of the best voices in contemporary music, mainstream or otherwise, with a nice line in production that utilises a sprightly piano, a touch of Dr Dre production around the edges that keeps the track urgent and moving forward.
Original R&B chart fodder is thin on the ground, so it's to be hoped this one will buck the trend and sell well, particularly as there is an album of Ms Walker to follow shortly. If it's all as competent as this then she should have a great summer.
