The Vines offer up 1 minute and 35 seconds of screaming, moaning grunge about being Highly Evolved and expect people to buy it. Well, since The Strokes turned up, less does seem to be more.
The Australian foursome actually sound more like a fusion of early Garbage with Six By Seven and Nirvana with this record - one of several groups around just now who sound uncannily like they're trying to reinvent grunge.
Front man Craig Nicholls' way of overlaying whispery, moaning and screaming vocal tracks is effective and the rest of the band's output sounds taut. But if grunge is coming back, these guys will be amongst those responsible. Be warned!
