A few months on from the Liejacker album, and the mercurial Thea Gilmore makes a welcome return to our stereos with a brand new single.
Liejacker was released following Gilmore's emergence from a period of depression, and her personal renaissance continues apace on this simple and upbeat track.
Come Up (With Me) is tailor made for Radio 2 airplay, which is convenient as the station seems to be the only one willing to play Gilmore's music on UK radio. The driving acoustic guitar and slick country rock backing is not a million miles away from Shania Twain territory. The positive message of the lyric, meanwhile, is indicative of Gilmore's transition from firebrand indie chick to mature singer-songwriter.
This is a solid, dependable track, although there is a nagging feeling that many long-term Gilmore fans will be wishing she had released something a bit more challenging.
