On paper, this London four piece appear to be an attractive proposition. Discovered by Ronnie Wood, championed by Zane Lowe, performances at several major festivals including Glasto and Isle Of Wight, and collaborations with Pete Doherty make The Thirst's CV an intriguing read.
Sail Away rattles along at quite a speed, and features some very tight musicianship. That's about it. I've tried hard to like Sail Away, but it's just not very good. For a band who market themselves as exponents of a truly unique sound, Sail Away is nothing revolutionary and there's little to engage the listener.
The vocals of Mensah, though technically very good, are irritating, while the melodies seem to be over-complicated. Notes for notes sake. The dodgy 80s-humping remix by David E Sugar eclipses the original, but still does not merit further investigation. The first signing to Ronnie Wood's Wooden Records? Is he losing his touch?
