The first thought that popped into my head when I heard Tim Wright's The Ride was: Basement Jaxx but dirtier. And dirty in the good, delicious sense - thanks to York-based Wright's trademark buzzing bass-line and thick throbbing industrial beats. Ragga vocals are provided by Toastie Tailor, member of the New Flesh crew. I can see the young nation hotly grinding away to this on the dancefloor.

Wright's remix of The Ride on the second track gives the bassline centre stage, distorting the vocals and injecting more energy to make it a frenetic techno/garage tune. Third up is Thirst, the title track to Wright's forthcoming album, which is remixed here by the Chilean Luciano. The eight-minute long track has a much thinner, lighter groove and is a disappointing comedown after the first two stompers.

You're brought back up again though with the fourth track, a heavy-paced breakbeat remix of The Ride by Pt.2 (alias Keith from New Flesh). A cracking single from Tim Wright. 2004 should be a good year for him.
