Hailing from the surprisingly musically prolific Yorkshire, Tiny Dancers have managed to set themselves apart with energetic live shows full of colour and glitter, and their stripped-down, folky-edged brand of indie has seen them take the limelight of late. Now is truly their time to establish themselves in the minds of the public, and Hannah We Know is the way that they will achieve this. Dulcet, ice-cream-van tones drift through the single to create the most identifiably ‘summery’ song of the year.

The single succeeds on two fronts. It establishes a simplistic appeal that could easily see a drunken party of students, possibly dressed in Hawaiian costume, dancing away and singing the easy refrain, but at the same time captures the poppy beat and inoffensive quality that will allow months of play on mainstream radio. The fact that I heard the song in a well known convenience chain recently is telling on this front. This is both its greatest strength and its main weakness.

Those who can accept the simplistic quality of the music will be unable to resist the intrinsic charm of the song, but something more lyrically substantial might be required to establish a greater sense of respectability behind the band’s music. However, this is a minor, nitpicking criticism that fades away under replays of what is essentially a largely successful feel-good track. Whether the Tiny Dancers will, in future, prove themselves capable of music with more depth or not they are a band to be looked out for, and this tune is one that will definitely be floating through the summer heat in the months to come.
