What a blythe bunch of popsters Sheffield's Tiny Dancers appear to be from their new EP, Lions And Tigers And Lions (no Oh My, but it does have a birotastic cover illustration and hand lettering on the back).

They rock very softly, with plenty of '80s electro influences thrown in, particularly on the opener, 20 to 9, and the echoing final track, Going Away which has a good chugging sing-along chorus, and an almost Spirit In The Sky vibrating electronic riff going on in the background. The rest of the time it's melodic soft rock, with a country twang here and there, particularly on Sun Goes Down.

The five numbers on this EP certainly demonstrate a broad range, from Coral-style rambling acoustic pop (Hemsworth Hallway) to harder edged, rocker moments at the end. Whether this means they don't quite know what direction to go in, or they're brimming with magpie ideas and just have to let them all out remains to be seen, and no doubt their promised debut album next year will bring some clarification. In the meantime enjoy this pleasing mixed bunch.
