Tokyo Police Club's star is on the rise. A mammoth US tour with Cold War Kids, an acclaimed performance at SXSW and an appearance on Letterman tells the story, but this is not really a band that I can kick the shit into in my underground lair.
The Club's Your English is Good single on Memphis Industries has a bit of a reined shimmer about it and an inkling of wilful direction, a huge dollop of The Strokes with just enough of a reactionary attitude to suggest that in a moment of bravado they’d tell them to go fuck themselves.
Of course by this time next week I might hate their guts (if they were British I already would), but for now I'm happy to wile away a minute or two in the presence of some quietly innovative superstars to-be. The shame of it.
