Towers Of London - Naked On The Dancefloor (Vibrant)
UK release date: 29 September 2008
The release of 2007's Blood Sweat & Towers saw a band bound into the public eye, with a brazen, do-I-give-shit mentality that saw them drive riffs out of thrashing guitars with more than a nod to 80s metal aesthetic and become notorious for their rock ‘n' roll cliché on-stage antics. No-one really knew what to make of them. Were Towers Of London for real?
Perhaps the question of how seriously this band took themselves and there massively comical/fucking annoying (depending on your viewpoint) frolics were what kept Towers Of London interesting. Now they're back, minus their balls, and it's all turned horrifyingly Pop, complete with boring, repetitive structure, dodgy vocals, and unengaging, clichéd lyricism. It sounds like the type of song that an adequate function band playing covers chuck in when they get ahead of themselves and think anyone gives a shit.
Yeah, the new sound just might get them a few more plays on the radio, but on the sly, we sigh, and reminisce about the semi-Spinal Tap, cock-rock mutiny of before. Tongue-in-cheek or not. This is just bad.
