I'm not having much luck with The Twilight Sad. The promo CD they sent me doesn't play and there's something amiss with their mySpace page as well, which makes it rather difficult to be sure that the track currently coming out of my laptop's tinny soundsystem is the one I'm actually meant to be reviewing.
Still, as I like their name and the title of the track, I shall endeavour to persevere and do my best with the results I can garner. It sounds worth the effort, after all. Broad Glaswegian accents shouting folky-inflected rock over a lot of feedback, they're like the bastard child of Sonic Youth and The Waterboys, which can only be a good thing.
Further investigation seems to indicate that this impression is probably largely accurate, as they've appeared at Chicago's Pitchfork festival with Sonic Youth, Stephen Malkmus and Cat Power, and at something called Get Off My Pavement in their home town, which I hope against hope is a tribute weekend to Mr Malkmus and Co, but may well turn out to be some odd Scottish bash-a-busker ritual instead.
Anyway, technological incompetence aside, there's something here. Give them the benefit of the doubt, and hope it all works better next time.
