You can't help but be a little cynical when a band announce that they started out as a pop outfit, only to discover that what they really want to do is rock. This bunch of seventeen and eighteen year old girls hail from the Isle of Man (not the first place you'd look for a punk pop band) and proudly proclaim that they write all their own tunes, which, presumably is a badge of authenticity.

From the look of the cover you would be expecting an Avril Lavigne kind of approach, only not quite as polished - this being an independent release and all. LA does have some thrashy punk guitar on it, but for all the girls' protestations, this is still very much a pop song. If anything, it calls to mind the cutesy DIY of Heavenly and the brassy, youthful vibrancy of Kenickie. Some of the playing is fairly rudimentary; indeed, there are times - such as the break in B-side For Always (stolen wholesale from Hotel California no less) - where you think: "Why didn't they record that bit again?".

There's certainly potential here, but Twisted Angels seem to be a little bit lost at the moment. They are too polished to be punk and yet too rough around the edges to be pop.
