Perfectly timed, Bono sir. Just as Coldplay release their third album, the world's favourite Irishmen quietly slip out another single to remind people of who the real Biggest Band In The Universe Ever Ever is.
City Of Blinding Lights is basically a lesson in how to make a classic U2 song. From the long, gradual build up of piano comes Edge's trademark guitar riff before Bono tells a tale of arriving in New York City for the first time. The chorus is the definition of singalong and you can imagine it going down a storm in the nation's football stadia this summer.
Being the third track from How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, this won't be as inescapable as Vertigo was. But it's a nice reminder that, although they're all well into their 40s now, U2 can still mix it with the young upstarts.
