Undercut are a five piece hailing from Bristol. Their sound prompts
comparisons to Jimmy Eat World, and though smatterings of the
American rockers sound can undoubtedly be found in their music, Undercut are
far deeper, cleverer and make an utterly compelling noise.
To Die For is Undercut's second single, released on their own label
Distiller Records. The song manages to pull off a raw yet completely solid sound. Vocalist Johnny Benn sounds a dead ringer for Terry Abbott
of the late Vex Red. His vocal melodies perfectly guide the verse to an
eruption of guitar-driven energy as the disco drums
add a pop irony to the medley. Addictive.
The B-sides, So Beautiful and Backroom, show us a different side to
Undercut - a far more tender and considered side. Despite the change of
mood, the same energy and beguiling presence presides. Undercut are
definitely one to keep at least one eye on.
