James Lavelle has always had an eye for a decent vocalist for his side-project UNKLE, and here drafts in The Cult singer Ian Astbury follows in the footsteps of the likes of Ian Brown, Richard Ashcroft and Thom Yorke.
UNKLE's best work has always been when a particularly powerful vocalist takes centre stage, and Astbury does not disappoint here. Over a dramatic backing of surging percussion, guitar riffs and a driving rhythm, Astbury puts in a near-perfect performance - one that makes you want to go and dig up all those old Cult records you haven't played for ages.
A glorious return for Lavelle - the forthcoming album War Stories should be one of the major releases of the year.
