Be honest with yourself here - when was the last time you heard a track brimming with such infectious simplicity that it managed to bury itself firmly in your head after just one listen? Apart from that bloody Shelia's Wheels jingle, I bet you're stumped.
Rejoice then, because current darlings of the press Vampire Weekend have delivered a cerebral shot of pure melody with a tune so contagious that they have should supply free ear muffs with it for fear of infecting humanity. They played this in my local the other night and I was toe tapping at the bar and swinging my hips before even realising it. This is behaviour that really doesn't suit a thirty something man. What have they done to me?!
If you're not familiar with the Weekend then they are a multi influenced band hailing from the preppy side of America. They're indie infused with reggae and what can only be described as afro-funk-punk. The throbbing baseline and the soothing flutes make this track a real winner- a jam session between The Specials, Fela Kuti and The Ramones.
This is a superb strong 3 minute slice of aural anarchy and the perfect antidote if you want to supplant any annoying jingle rudely occupying your headspace. Shelia's what?
