If you like your Rock'n'Roll generic, watered down, and eager to
appeal to everyone, then stop your search for your next favourite band:
Vanlustbader are exactly what you are looking for. A drum beat pinched from Walk This Way, a song title appropriated
from Gary Glitter (perhaps the only brave thing about this song),
and a guitar line that might have been deep-fat fried rather than
produced, all add up to make a heaving disappointment of a song.
"I love Rock and I love Roll / music can save my soul" they belt out
in a chorus that will please your mum, and those balding rockers who
head bang with their thumbs jammed in their belt loops. Vanlustbader
should be warned that making this kind of music could probably condemn your
soul to the pit of flames, where it will roast for eternity next to the
deep fat fryer where they 'produced' their guitar sound. Perhaps their
one saving grace is to prove that The Devil doesn't have all the best
tunes after all.
It's an oft-quoted fact that sequels are always appalling (with the
exception of Godfather II), and in that tradition, Rock n Roll Part III
is the musical equivalent of Jaws 4 -The Revenge.
