Visionary Underground - Eye Of The Storm

Visionary Underground are a collective of artists from London and Eye Of The Storm is their debut single. The press release purports the music as fresh and exciting, mixing hybrid beats with visuals to match. However, on the grounds of this single, I sit cautionary skeptical.

Eye Of The Storm starts with eastern strings and soulful vocals from Damion Mulrain, entering with a full-on swirling beat, which is all quite pleasing, but, unfortunately, does not represent musical departure. The drums sound live, which appeals, and although the tune and vocals will undoubtedly drive dancing, there is little innovation to be heard. This is stock dance fodder.

That said, however, dancing is what it's all about, and we will for sure. Radio 1 DJ's are already playing Eye Of The Storm and it may well speed up the dance charts. Certainly, live dance music must be applauded, and this single relase may represent the more commercial aspect of the forthcoming LP. We eagerly await its release to see if Visionary Underground can meet the innovative expectations promised.
