How can I describe Viva Voce? A husband and wife duo from Portland Oregan who record at home, they sound like Goldfrapp with guitars instead of synths after listening to the Jesus And Mary Chain, creating a kind of rocking hypnotic drone, with added jingly pop elements.
For Faster Than A Dead Horse from their third album Get Yr Blood Sucked Out, lead singer Anita croons over music that has a guitar sold reminiscent of The Osmond's Crazy Horses!. Strangely there is a 2.18 minute edit, presumably intended for radio, which sort of defeats the purpose of all that 'suck you in gently' repetition.
God knows what she's singing about; that's rather beside the point. Give it time; despite the somewhat flat, monotonous vocals, it's a definite grower.
