Let's make one thing clear. You can never sound too much like Joy Division. It's aurally impossible and anyone who thinks otherwise is just wrong. If you do this while occasionally covering The Cure and The Strokes, you deserve even more praise.

Which makes it absolutely criminal that although I'll Always Be With You When There's Nothing Left Inside is taken from The Voices' second album, it is in fact their first ever single. It's probably the best single you'll hear all year, if not in your entire life. While it might be true that seven minutes and fifty one seconds of ambient feedback and doom-laden bass with virtually no vocals is not what you might describe as radio-friendly, that's only because all radio stations are also wrong.

They're only playing one more gig in the UK this year, in Cardiff on August 25 at the Carling Calling festival. Go. Even if it means you have to set off now and walk, because this is a sound that should not be missed. It's like Sigur Ros caressing Ian Curtis's headstone and then running their fingers down your spine. At that means that the Voices are, quite simply, superb. I want more of them. Now.
