It's been available to download for ages, but at last The White Stripes have got round to releasing Blue Orchid on one of those funny old fashioned silver disc things. And what a song it is to announce their comeback.
A razor sharp guitar riff opens the song, conjuring up images of Black Sabbath or Deep Purple, before Jack White starts singing in a most unsettling falsetto. "You took a wild orchird and turned it blue" he warbles while Meg smacks her drums like the devil himself is possessing her.
Although Jack's falsetto does sometimes sound like Justin Hawkins, this is as mighty as you'd expect from one of the best bands in the world. As a taster for the forthcoming album Get Behind Me Satan, it doesn't get more mouthwatering.
