Brooklyn appears to the centre of all that is musically cool this year, with both Vampire Weekend and Yeasayer leading the charge from New York. Unlike both of the aforementioned bands though, White Williams is a one-man electronica tour-de-force.
Violator is nervy, insistent disco-funk, with all manner of weird, eerie little noises being laid down by Joe Williams before it glides majestically into an addictive chorus. It's a bizarre little song - poppy and commercial to be sure, but with a edgy undercurrent running through the song that never allows you to fully relax.
If you imagine Jim Noir after he's drunk an heroic amount of caffeine, or Beck getting hold of Gary Numan's back catalogue and ripping it apart, then you may be coming close to White Williams' sound. It may not be for everyone, but those who do tune in are in for a treat.
